Phonic Phase 2
The UK government's systematic synthetic phonic programme Letters and Sounds introduces 19 letters of the alphabet for children to say, read and write in phonic phase 2.
These are 'a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, k, l, m, n, o, p, r, s, t, u'. It also introduces 5 high-frequency irregular words. These are 'the, I, no, go, to'.
**** READING BOOKS ****
The AB Starter Pack introduces 18 of the letters, ('k' is not included) plus 'x'. It consists of books A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, B3 and two new books A4 and B4. The high-frequency word 'the' appears in books A4 and B4. There are no capital letters, no verbs and no sentences, just CVC nouns joined by CVC adjectives and the words 'a, on, in, and, the'.
The First Words Series introduces all 19 letters and the irregular high-frequency words 'the, I'. 'I' is the only capital letter in the whole series and it is used in books 6, 7 and 8 at the beginning of sentences starting with 'I am .....' and 'I can .....'.
**** WRITING RESOURCES ****
The volume, Letters of the Alphabet Worksheets, has 27 sheets for the lower case letters of the alphabet, including both versions of 'k', and 27 sheets of mixed lower case and upper case letters.
The volume, First Words Worksheets, has 48 photocopiable A4 writing activities to accompany the books in the series. Both versions of the letter 'k' in the Sassoon Primary Infant Font are used.
Photocopiable Worksheets Volume 1 provides 50 different sheets of writing material and handwriting practice in the Sassoon Primary Infant Font for books 1-4 of the A Series and the B Series.
**** LETTER and WORD Cards ****
Alphabet Cards have both a small and capital letter on one side together with a picture. There are four CVC words on the reverse of each card for children to practise reading.
Single Letter Cards have a small letter of the alphabet on one side and a picture on the reverse.
Word Cards Set 1 are for the CVC words and the irregular high-frequency words introduced in the whole of the A Series.
Word Cards Set 2 are for the 27 CVC words in the whole of the B Series
Word Cards Set 4 consist of 36 CVC words essential for phase 2.
