Phonic Phase 5
In Letter and Sounds Phase 5 children learn more vowel spellings of the English language as well as the alternative pronunciations of others.
****READING BOOKS****

Combining Consonants Series covers the vowel spellings 'ai', 'ay', 'ea', 'ee', 'er', 'oo', 'or', 'ou', 'ow' throughout all 5 books in simple words.
Follifoot Farm Series 1 covers the vowel spellings 'ai', 'ar', 'ay', 'ea', 'ee', 'er', 'oa', 'oo', 'or', 'ou', 'ow' throughout all the six books in simple words connected with the farm, e.g. 'rain, farm, hay, eat, sheep, water, road, flood, soon, cow, soon.'
Follifoot Farm Series 2 uses the same combinations as Series 1 plus 'y' (fly) and 'are' (scared). This series is one continuous story told in six parts. Children need to read the books in the order 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 to follow the story and to appreciate the cliffhanger ending on the last page of each book. They will be well motivated by this, wanting to go on to the next book to find out what happens.
Follifoot Farm Series 3 concentrates on the split digraphs (magic 'e'), as in the words 'a-e' (cave), 'i-e' (white), 'o-e' (nose), in a complete story told in six parts like Follifoot Farm Series 2. The books need to be read in the order 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
The 8 books in the Long Vowel Selection introduce each of the vowel spellings 'o-e, ow, y, ie, ue, ew, igh, u-e' separately, and in that order, so that the books are 100% decodable.
Similarly, the 12 books of the English Vowels Series introduce each of the other vowel spellings 'ow, er, ou, oo, ar, or, ur, ir, oi, ear (near), aw/au, ea (heavy), air/are' separately, and in that order, so that the books are 100% decodable.
*****WRITING ACTIVITIES****
